Repurposing with Aesthetic

collection,

Repurposing in one's life

On Driftwilde, we follow a path where we value the integration of old, broken, found, or re-purposed treasures into something with character, style and grace. It can take you to a more intentional way of being in the world. In essence, it’s a challenge to oneself to create something new that has a greater presence than the individual original parts alone. It’s clearly more than the satisfaction of repairing a piece of furniture or discovering a castoff painting in the Goodwill bin. It’s about putting some of yourself into the creation and living more of an honorable green life in the process. In Repurposing with Aesthetic, you’ll find examples of unique creations and the journey it took to bring out their very best.

Be a renaissance person

Creating something new from used pieces often means learning new skills and techniques. Enjoy being tagged as a "renaissance" kind of person as you seek out the needed knowledge and apply it to your needs. One of my favorite things I've made is transforming a tacky, vinyl-covered jewelry box into a jewel of a box by covering it in Japanese book-binding paper. Using borrowed techniques in the creative process, the box became something that gives me daily pleasure. Take pleasure as your new works emerge, some with flaws and their own wonderful sense of wabi-sabi.
